Find Your Post-Race Recovery Routine at Accel

As an athlete, you spend countless hours perfecting your training. The time you invest to reach your full potential shouldn’t stop as soon as the race starts. What you do to help your body recover after you cross the finish line is crucial to your performance. At Accel, our coaches want to help you learn proper recovery methods that will allow you to meet new mile times, reach goals, and optimize your running performance.

Our team is sharing three ways you can make the most of your post-race recovery.

Replenish with proper nutrition

Implementing a balanced and adequate meal and snack pattern should be an athlete’s top priority. Performance nutrition is a 24/7/365 commitment, as the body requires three meals a day and snacks as needed. With the right planning, these meals and snacks can boost energy and help your body recover from race day. Start each day with breakfast, eating every 3 to 4 hours after that, while drinking water for adequate hydration. A usual eating schedule may include breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. Remember that every body and every athlete are different, so it’s best to work with a sports-registered dietitian for specific and individualized nutrition coaching.

Keep your body moving

After you finish a big race, you might feel like taking a week off from training. We understand that recovery is crucial to bouncing back into a routine, which is why we encourage athletes to keep their bodies moving post race day. We’re not talking about lifting heavy weights, but stretching, foam rolling, and massage therapy are great ways to recover from a competition. Not only will these types of exercises help you avoid injury, but also you’ll become faster, stronger, and more competitive for your next race. Professional coaches can help you find safe and effective ways to move and strengthen your body, even after the toughest race days.

Rest for best results

When it comes to race recovery, the human body often needs help to bounce back from sustained performance. From cold tub therapy to NormaTec boots to our Game-Ready cryotherapy, our coaches/therapists use a variety of tools to help our athletes recover from a rigorous workout. At Accel, we pride ourselves in giving our clients a workout that pushes their limits in order to move them toward their performance goals. Whether we are helping them return to play or train for the next big race, our individualized workouts are designed to reach their bodies’ optimal performance.
